CDA, Barakhu Bypass Updates

Last month in January the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad  received a boost to escalate the Bhara Kahu Bypass project with the allocation of Rs500 million. The government has directed the CDA to complete the project by the end of February, and around 60% of work is already completed, and the rest is at a speedy progree.

Earthwork for the entire road has been finished, with girders already laid on the interchange. Over 50% of the work on the bridge and underpasses is complete, but the 1km flyover area is progressing relatively at a gradual pace. Despite this, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad is making all efforts to wrap up the project at the earliest.

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on September 30th, the Bhara Kahu Bypass project has made a record in terms of progress so far. However, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad is facing financial issues, with funds for various projects being released in instalments due to the civic agency’s financial constraints.

It was recently revealed that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad has been facing a shortage of funds, with a major portion of the funds received during the last plot auction held; two years ago has already been spent on the quotation works. This is due to a quotation scam that saw some directorates of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad ignore rules and regulations and spend around Rs20 billion on quotation works without calling tenders.

Despite the financial difficulties, the CDA is expecting a revenue boost from the auction of plots in the coming weeks, with a revenue of Rs20 billion expected. The agency is also planning to launch a housing project, mainly for overseas Pakistanis, which will provide a much-needed financial boost.

Inshort, the Bhara Kahu Bypass project in Islamabad is making steady progress, despite financial constraints faced by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad. With more instalments expected in the coming weeks and a revenue boost from the upcoming auction, the CDA is confident that the project will be completed on time.

With all eyes on the Bhara Kahu Bypass project, will Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad be able to keep up their promise?
