Islamabad: PM Imran Khan is going to attend the Middle East Green Initiative Summit expected to be held on October 25th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The special representative of the Prime Minister on Middle East Tahir Ashrafi confirmed that PM Khan will be attending the event since he was invited by Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman a few months back in the month of July. During his visit, he will be holding meetings with the Saudi Leadership in order to improve the bilateral relationships between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. In the month of March, the Saudi Leadership launched the Middle East Green and Saudi Green schemes with an objective to cut down on carbon emissions with the help of clean hydrocarbon technologies as well as through the plantation of 50 billion trees 10 billion of these will be planted in Saudi Arabia. This is expected to cut down the carbon emission by up to 60%. These two parallel campaigns are aimed to be working towards cutting down carbon emission on both a domestic and regional scale to meet the global targets of combating climate change. Pakistan was among one of the first countries to openly welcome this initiative. PM khan offered exclusive efforts to help with the tree plantation campaign in a letter to the Saudi Crown Prince. Cooperation for these regional efforts stem from Prime Minister Khan’s own efforts to combat climate change in Pakistan including the campaigns “10 billion Tree Tsunami” and “Clean and Green Pakistan”. As obtained from the Green Initiative website “The summit will convene international as well as the regional leaders to motivate a consensus in order to deliver against the shared environmental commitments”
