Islamabad: Pakistan’s top tax machinery is set to launch the much-awaited single sales tax portal as part of this month’s initiatives.

Pakistan’s top tax machinery is set to launch a much-awaited single sales tax portal this month as part of initiatives that will facilitate taxpayers and ensure easy investment in the business sector.

This facility will enable the taxpayers to file a single monthly sales tax return in place of the 6 that they normally sign on 6 different portals.

Prime Minister Imran is most likely to launch this mega-national project later this month.

The National Tax council is an apex tax body that includes representation from the different provinces and they have had a consensus on the issue. This landmark initiative has been made possible after having thorough discussions with the different revenue authorities of the different provinces including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, AJK.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) declared on Tuesday that the planned single gateway will help taxpayers by automating processes, digitizing data, and reducing human interaction with tax officials.

The system would be smart enough to sort and collect revenue from a single taxpayer before distributing it to different revenue authorities.

It is one of the most important decisions made as part of harmonization, which entails an agreement between the federal government and the provinces to use the same definitions, concepts, and rates for general sales tax (GST) on goods and services.
