IHC orders demolition of navy’s farmhouses, a sailing club in the capital
Islamabad: Islamabad High court declared the Pakistan Navy’s sailing clubs and Farmhouses illegal and as such ordered their demolition.
News Sources reported that the High Court issued directions to initiate criminal proceedings against the Navy Chief Officer Zafar Mehmud Abbasi along with the other officials who approved the construction of these housing projects.
According to the news sources, there was a 45-page judgment that didn’t just deem these constructions illegal but also ordered the Capital Development Authority to take over the Naval farmhouses. Chief Justice Athar Minallah was also recorded saying that the Navy had trespassed onto the land situated on the embankment of the Rawal Lake, this too in a protected National Park area.
It also noted that the club Building shall not be regularized in any manner seeing as how they have been illegally constructed in an ecologically sensitive area in violation of the mandatory provisions.
Islamabad High court also declared that the occupation of the Land was illegal without any lawful authority of jurisdiction.
The Navy has been instructed to stop all forms of Development work on Rawal Lake and hand over their property to the Small Dams Organization, the court also ordered the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board to recultivate the natural habitat of the Lake’s surroundings.
